With a program that includes dance, theater, literature, plastic arts and science, the Quimera International Festival will celebrate its 18th edition from October 15th to 25th 2009 in Metepec, Estado de Mexico. 900 artists from China, Chile, Italy, Canada, Argentina, Cuba, Russia and Mexico will participate this year.

Some of these artists are Tandem, Humanicorp, Barro Rojo, Lila Downs, Jaramar, Astrid Hadad, Trio Infanzon, Arpas de America, Pate de Fua, Triciclo Rojo, Biznaga Teatro, Nortec, Monedita de Oro, Maquina de Teatro, Ballet Independiente, La Trouppe, Coro Convivium Musicum and Voz en Punto.

The recently restored 18th century organ at El Calvario Temple will be played by maestro Victor Urban accompanied by David Soteno.

A medal and diploma will be presented to 3 acknowledged intellectuals considered National Treasures by the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH): plastic artist Luis Nishisawa, writer and humanist Ernesto de la Peña and ethnomusicologist Guillermo Contreras.

In press conference at the National Museum of Anthropology (MNA), Ana Lilia Herrera Anzaldo, Metepec Municipal President, informed that 16 more prizes will be presented to citizens of Metepec, as part of the anniversary of the Villa de Metepec designation, in October 15th.

During the 10 days of the festival, 250,000 visitors are expected, as well as economic revenue of 13.5 million MXP, she expressed.

Among outstanding activities is the Ernesto de la Peña keynote speech in October 15th at 13:00 hours in Casa de la Cultura; the exhibition of 20 artworks by Luis Nishisawa at Presidencia Municipal patio, as well as a photographic sample with large format work of Gilberto Aceves Navarro in Parque Bicentenario.
Jorge Luis Gonzalez Santana, director of the festival, highlighted the literary gatherings with Felipe Garrido, David Martin del Campo, Emmanuel Carballo, Beatriz Espejo, Gonzalo Celorio, Eduardo Casar, Mauricio Carrera, Maricruz Patiño and Alberto Chimal, among others.

Another remarkable event is the telescope Observation at Parque Bicentenario on Saturday October 24th2009, where more than 300 persons will watch the stars, to become part of Guinness Record. Conferences and infantile workshops will take place to celebrate 2009, International Year of Astronomy.

Pancho Lopez will give a conference about performance, while Mario Kuri Aldana, Arturo Marquez, Federico Ibarra and Gerardo Tamez will talk about Mexican contemporary composers.
